Day 13: Lucky Enough

By

My husband and I have an ongoing debate about the existence of divine intervention. I do not believe in coincidence or luck. My faith tells me that there is always a higher order at play working in our favor. He, on the other hand, believes that if humans have free will and choice, there is no way every outcome for every person in this world is divinely scripted out. Simply put, we oversee our destiny.

I, unlike my husband, enjoy a good banter or debate so I constantly point out moments that I feel can’t be explained any other way than divine intercession.  At least once a week you will hear me start a sentence with, “See how God works…” before droning on about how I am right, and he is wrong. My very literal husband usually retorts with an eye roll and a precise rational explanation to prove his theory is more accurate.

Now there may be no way to know which one of us is correct, but I venture to say the answer may lay somewhere in the middle.

Scenarios such as how me met our spouse, landed our job, or found our closest friends may all stem from luck, chance, or coincidence. Just as being unlucky may account for the misfortune we have experienced in our life. Or maybe there is little mystery in life, and you are dutifully living out your destination without much real choice at all. Whichever camp you choose to support I believe we all only have to be just lucky enough.

Being lucky enough calls on you to live with open awareness so as to observe glimmers of fate, while being bold enough to trust yourself with what to do when these chances find their way into your life. Today, I call on all of us to be lucky enough.

Be lucky enough to notice the beauty of nature around you.  A free viewing of the universe is an art show like no other. Calms the minds and elicits gratitude.

Be lucky enough to be ready and aware for times without obligation.  Engaging with family, friends, or our passions are the gifts that are most missed when our days come to a close.

Be lucky enough to take a chance on a stranger.  Every friend in your life started as a stranger.  Connect with the world around you by getting to know others.

Be lucky enough to find the strength to pick yourself up and reflect on your struggles.  You may just find the lesson you need for the next step of your life is buried in the pain of the present.

Be lucky enough to sing in the shower and dance in the rain.  How fortunate are we that we have the power to harvest moments that give life to our spirit and authentic self?

Be lucky enough to cultivate peace amidst the noise of the day.  How fortunate are we that we can actually control our breathing and thoughts anytime and anywhere?  If you are lucky enough to do this successfully you will unlock a capability that is supernatural.

Lastly, be lucky enough to love.  Humans have so many unique gifts and talents.  When we were given the ability to love others we really lucked out.  It is as if we have the answer to all life’s problems right at our fingertips.  One solution for so many troubles… now that is a lucky life hack.

Whether you feel like you are luckiest guy or gal on the planet or like life just can’t cut you a break remember we all just have to be lucky enough. We have the seed and God has the rain.  Find your moments, good or bad, and consider yourself lucky enough to have everything you need to make the most out of whatever life throws your way.
